The Frank Lloyd Wright designed Ennis House built in 1924, is a designated California Historic Landmark and a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. The original precast “textile” blocks utilized decomposed granite from the site, introducing natural impurities to the mix and causing the blocks to prematurely decay.
Working on an original Frank Lloyd Wright home in Los Angeles was a very interesting opportunity for Shaw & Sons. Shaw & Sons matched the color of the blocks and the grid pattern using Lithocrete materials. The mix utilizes a waterproofing admixture and special sealers for longevity. All the paving was poured in place including the custom pool coping.
