Del Valle Memorial Park

Owner:

City of Lakewood

Architect:

Meyer and Associates

General Contractor:

EC Construction

Shaw and Sons has been joined by the best “stamped concrete” people in the industry: Marshall Barabasch Sr., Marshall Barabasch Jr. and their crews. This enables Shaw & Sons to offer an even broader range of finishes for theme parks and public parks, such as Del Valle Memorial Park that require such specialty textures.

The Del Valle Memorial Park underwent a renovation that included restoring the 45 foot long Marine Corps Douglas F3D-2 “Skynight” fighter. Meyer and Associates’ design replicated the deck of the USS Intrepid, and Essex class aircraft carrier where the plane was once stationed. This was achieved with stamping and coloring the concrete to resemble a historic wood deck.

Various shades of seeded Lithocrete® blue glass fade into each other to represent water around the carrier. Presto Wall Finish was used to revitalize the existing plane pedestal. Both the plane and deck are dramatically lit at night.
